Amanda Paolicelli:

What's up, radiant icons, and welcome back to

2

:

Dare To Be Iconic, the podcast made

for icons daring to be themselves.

3

:

I'm your host, Amanda Paolicelli.

4

:

And you guys today, we are

talking about the subject that

5

:

no one likes to talk about.

6

:

Change, specifically, we are talking

about pivoting and staying true to

7

:

yourself in that process of learning

when it is the right time to change

8

:

course, to pivot into a different

direction, that is more meant for you.

9

:

And, well, I hate change, just

like everyone else out there.

10

:

And the last couple of weeks, I've

been faced with this overwhelming

11

:

feeling of having to pivot and that

fear of it, and we're just gonna

12

:

spill all the tea about that today.

13

:

But before we get into this piping hot tea

time sesh, connect with me on socials and

14

:

grab your copy of Breakup with the Past,

Fall in Love with the Future, your five

15

:

step guide in turning pain into power.

16

:

And all that information is

found in the show notes below.

17

:

Now let's get into the good stuff.

18

:

Are you ready, radiant icons?

19

:

Because your tea time

sesh is starting now.

20

:

Man, this lesson has been slapping me

in the face for a couple weeks now.

21

:

And originally, fun fact, this

episode was not supposed to be on

22

:

pivoting and staying true to yourself.

23

:

It was supposed to be a

completely other topic.

24

:

I was already ready to go, but something

inside of me was like, you know what?

25

:

No, you, you need to put that one to

the backburner and you need to talk

26

:

about this now because I think for

me, when it comes to the podcast, I

27

:

think of it as obviously, a catch up,

like, tea time sesh with you guys,

28

:

but it's another way for me to kind of

process everything that's going on in

29

:

my brain, and, like, yes, do I journal?

30

:

Yes.

31

:

Do I talk to my friends about it?

32

:

Yeah, of course.

33

:

I drive them crazy, and I drive myself

crazy about it, but I think the whole

34

:

point of Dare To Be Iconic is to

be able to share my life, share my

35

:

stories, and then pull out the universal

lessons, and I know I'm not the only

36

:

one struggling with this right now.

37

:

So, if you are currently struggling with

this idea of change and knowing when is

38

:

the right time to go down a different

path than what you originally thought

39

:

was, like, best for you, or if you're

just scared to take that leap and try

40

:

something new than what you originally

intended, like, this is the episode for

41

:

you and I want you to know that you're

not alone in it, because we all deal with

42

:

this emotion of pivoting, and the question

in it lies, like, Okay, yeah, sometimes

43

:

we do have to pivot, but then how do we

stay true to ourselves in the process?

44

:

And it's not easy.

45

:

But we're gonna get through it.

46

:

And we're gonna get through this episode.

47

:

So, let's get into it.

48

:

I think for the last couple of

weeks, I've had to put myself out

49

:

there a lot more than I usually do.

50

:

Sometimes it pays off, and

it has, and it's beautiful.

51

:

But the times when it doesn't.

52

:

The times when it kind of slaps you in

the face and you're like, wow, okay.

53

:

Great.

54

:

That's a clear sign.

55

:

Okay.

56

:

Thank you.

57

:

And we all know when we're not,

we're not invited in a room, right?

58

:

We all know when someone doesn't

reciprocate that feeling back towards us.

59

:

And it's not a good feeling.

60

:

And lately going to majority of these

networking events, like putting myself

61

:

out there on, on that scale and trying

to find a community locally that I can

62

:

relate to and kind of talk about the

hardships of being an entrepreneur and

63

:

like learning about the next steps.

64

:

I was at this event a couple of weeks

ago, and um, I was really excited for it.

65

:

Like, so excited because earlier in

the week, I had gone to this other

66

:

networking event, and the vibes were

not it so going into this next event,

67

:

I was like, this is gonna be great.

68

:

Like, this is just a new start.

69

:

I, I can't wait to meet everyone.

70

:

I remember sitting down for the

first exercise and looking around

71

:

the room and having this moment.

72

:

Of being like, wow, like, I really

do not belong and we all know

73

:

that, that feeling, and it sucks.

74

:

It really, truly does suck, because

all we want to do at the end of

75

:

the day is feel like we belong.

76

:

I want to say that's like a hierarchy.

77

:

What is it in school that we learn about?

78

:

Maslow Hierarchy of Needs.

79

:

I think like the first one is belonging.

80

:

I don't know.

81

:

Don't quote me on it.

82

:

It's been a long time, you guys.

83

:

But like, genuinely, right?

84

:

Like, we all want to feel like we belong.

85

:

And in that moment, I

knew I didn't belong.

86

:

You know the feeling when you just keep

trying to put yourself out there and

87

:

it's not reciprocated, it's like, wow,

like, maybe Maybe being myself is not

88

:

enough and that's dangerous because

I used to think that and that's never

89

:

good and it's not true- It's not true.

90

:

You ever feel that way?

91

:

It's not true.

92

:

You are enough just the way that you are.

93

:

But I would be lying if I didn't say

that I felt those emotions as well and

94

:

it messes with your psyche, and that's

when the self doubt comes in and that's

95

:

when the imposter syndrome creeps in

and like all these negative things

96

:

they just like ball up and that's what

I've been dealing with because in that

97

:

moment when I felt like I didn't belong,

I was like, wow, will I ever belong?

98

:

Like, I'm trying so hard with

specific groups locally and it's

99

:

just not working out for me.

100

:

It's not being reciprocated.

101

:

And I'm like, okay, well then

maybe I do need to pivot.

102

:

Maybe this is the sign that I need to

know when it's time to walk away and

103

:

walk away in the aspect of maybe I need

to try something else, or maybe the

104

:

Orlando communities are not it for me.

105

:

Maybe that is not the path that

I'm destined to go down because

106

:

at the end of the day, Dare

To Be Iconic is international.

107

:

And maybe being so focused on Orlando

specific networking events or so on

108

:

and so forth, like, maybe that isn't

the path that I am supposed to go down.

109

:

And for year two, the first check item was

get more involved in my local community,

110

:

which at this point in time is Orlando.

111

:

And I was like, okay, great.

112

:

And I'm doing all these things and all the

things you're supposed to be doing, right?

113

:

Going to networking events, doing this

and this, blah, blah, blah, X, Y, and Z.

114

:

Like I'm doing all of it.

115

:

But it hasn't really worked out for me.

116

:

I think I realized all within these

events that it's time to walk away

117

:

from a path that isn't meant for me.

118

:

So I'm gonna read this to you guys

that I had actually written down when I

119

:

was journaling about this whole entire

subject: sometimes you have to know

120

:

when to walk away from one path to

pursue the other because the other path

121

:

is truly where you were meant to be.

122

:

And I think another layer into

this whole Oh my God, do I belong?

123

:

Do I not belong?

124

:

Am I enough?

125

:

Like every little doubt that I had

that came to, oh, I need to pivot and

126

:

I need to do things the Amanda way

is that it was all rooted in fear.

127

:

Yeah, fear that nice little f word, right?

128

:

Not, not the other one.

129

:

Not the other one, you guys.

130

:

But like fear.

131

:

The fear of failure.

132

:

The fear of failure on a public

display, for me, is really terrifying.

133

:

I don't like to fail in general,

even though I know it's a necessity

134

:

in any process that we're going to.

135

:

Like, you need to fail in order to learn.

136

:

It doesn't mean that I'm

okay with the concept!

137

:

I don't think anyone is, but you

know, why not just lay it out there?

138

:

I don't like the idea of failing.

139

:

And I don't like the

idea of failing publicly.

140

:

This fear of failure is so dehabilitating

that it's like, where do I go next?

141

:

And I think when I kept not feeling that

reciprocation from certain events that

142

:

I was going to or even like behind the

scenes things that are happening right

143

:

now for Dare To Be Iconic and having

this overwhelming urge of, oh my god,

144

:

I really need to change direction, but

also I'm failing is a really hard pill

145

:

to swallow, because to me and I know it's

not true, but I still see it as some form

146

:

of embarrassment because other people

can see that I'm failing so publicly.

147

:

I think why I was so paralyzed

from accepting that I needed to

148

:

pivot and that idea of change

was because I didn't want to fail

149

:

publicly because I was scared of it.

150

:

My friend, Maria, said the other day you

aren't failing, you keep actively doing

151

:

things and that's the opposite of failure.

152

:

You start failing when you stop trying.

153

:

And that really, like, that really hit me.

154

:

We have to keep showing up for ourselves

and we have to keep trying new things.

155

:

We have to keep knowing when it's

time to pivot and try a different

156

:

direction that is leading us to the

direction we're meant to be on and the

157

:

moment we just stop and we let that

fear consume us, that's when we fail.

158

:

I think why I was so hesitant

or so stubborn like let's

159

:

be so for real on this.

160

:

I was being very stubborn with maybe

I do need to pivot was not only

161

:

because I thought I was failing, but

I also saw pivoting as failing, and

162

:

thinking back on all of it, I don't

think pivoting is failing at all.

163

:

In fact, I think pivoting is a

sign of strength, because it's

164

:

steering you back into the path

that you're, you're meant to be on.

165

:

It takes strength to walk away

from an environment, a situation

166

:

that is not good for you.

167

:

It is okay to walk away from a path

that you thought was it for you.

168

:

It's okay to walk away from a dream that

you once had because it's not it anymore.

169

:

It's okay to want to start again.

170

:

That's the beautiful thing about life,

is that we have so many opportunities

171

:

to start again and to try new things.

172

:

Pivoting is such a sign of strength

because you have that strength from

173

:

within to be like, you know what?

174

:

It's okay to walk away from something

that once thought was right for me,

175

:

or what I once thought I wanted.

176

:

It's okay to walk away

from that and realize it.

177

:

And I think that's beautiful

because it's steering us back

178

:

to where we are meant to be.

179

:

And maybe it takes a little bit longer

for us to figure it out, but okay.

180

:

We end up exactly where

we are meant to be.

181

:

And I think that's what I'm figuring out.

182

:

When it came to this whole concept

of pivoting and figuring out

183

:

what really do I want to do..

184

:

I needed to look within myself

and I needed to see the external

185

:

signs that were slapping me in

the face over and over again.

186

:

And be like, okay you need

to try a different way.

187

:

And just because you're

trying a different way.

188

:

It doesn't mean you're failing, Amanda.

189

:

It just means you're figuring it out.

190

:

And maybe this goes back to

doing things the Amanda way.

191

:

I have to stay true to myself in this

process because then I lose the mission

192

:

of and vision of Dare To Be Iconic.

193

:

The only thing I know how to do

in this world is to be myself.

194

:

And the core messaging of Dare

To Be Iconic is dare to be you.

195

:

And I think for the last couple

of weeks, I was letting all

196

:

these other things consume me.

197

:

And it just was like

taking away my sparkle.

198

:

Once I had that, Oh shit moment, I really

do need to pivot because I'm drowning.

199

:

That's when like the sparkle came back

and I started doing things the Amanda way.

200

:

And I think when you have that moment

of realization of, Oh, I really do

201

:

need to change course because I'm tired

of fighting myself and everything.

202

:

That's when everything aligns,

because you're choosing yourself,

203

:

and you're daring to be yourself,

which is the whole idea of Dare To

204

:

Be Iconic, like the whole thing of

Dare to be Iconic is Dare to be you.

205

:

And at the end, it just keeps proving

out that you just have to keep daring

206

:

to be yourself, even if you get

slapped in the face with rejection.

207

:

I'm going to keep daring to be me

because the more we start embracing

208

:

who we are, and the more we lean into

it, and we embrace every little aspect

209

:

of it, it will always lead us down the

path that we are supposed to be on.

210

:

Okay.

211

:

Radiant icons.

212

:

Let's get into the hotline

questions, shall we?

213

:

All right.

214

:

Hey Amanda, I'm struggling with

a career shift and I'm scared

215

:

of losing myself in the process.

216

:

How do you handle major changes

while staying true to who you are?

217

:

I don't handle them well, but what

I'm currently learning in this

218

:

process of pivoting is that you need

to stay true to your core values.

219

:

Which, which kind of goes back to

honoring that intention of choosing you

220

:

and how do you continue to dare to be

yourself before you enter any scenario.

221

:

And I think it goes back to

having that self introspection

222

:

of what are my core values?

223

:

How do I stay true to them

while I go on this new path?

224

:

So in your case, that's a career

shift, which is super exciting.

225

:

It's, it's really scary.

226

:

Like I'm not going to lie.

227

:

And it's really daunting,

but like, that's so exciting.

228

:

Like you have this beautiful new

opportunity placed in front of you.

229

:

And my advice would be:

what are your core values?

230

:

What do you believe in?

231

:

What do you stand for?

232

:

What do you want in a job, right?

233

:

What do you want from that company?

234

:

And I think writing down your three

core values and what it means to you

235

:

and being able to, you know, when you

look at the job listings and be like,

236

:

okay, does this company align with

what I believe in as an individual?

237

:

I think that's how you don't lose

yourself in the process because

238

:

you're making sure that whatever

company, organization, or Whatever

239

:

it is in this career shift, right?

240

:

You're, you're comparing what that stands

for compared to what you stand for.

241

:

And if it aligns, then that's how

you continue staying true to yourself

242

:

because you're, you're working for

with however it is you're, you're

243

:

working with a company, a brand that

values, the same things that you do.

244

:

And that's exactly what you want.

245

:

When you're pivoting, you, you want to

honor that commitment of choosing you.

246

:

And that all comes down

to what do you stand for?

247

:

What do you believe in?

248

:

And if they don't.

249

:

You will find something that does so

it's okay to walk away from it because

250

:

I think it's more important to work

with or for something that you gel

251

:

with, vibe with, that those values

align than trying to force yourself

252

:

to work with or for someone that

doesn't believe in what you believe in.

253

:

All right, let's get to question two.

254

:

I'm thinking of moving to a new city.

255

:

How do you know when it's time to pivot

and make a big change in your life?

256

:

I think it really truly does come

down to your gut and your instincts.

257

:

Like, it will always, always

steer you in the right direction.

258

:

And if it's not screaming at you from

the inside out to move to x, y, and

259

:

z place then it's not the right time.

260

:

And if it's screaming at you to

go, Go, do it, see how it is.

261

:

And if you hate it, it's okay,

you can always try again.

262

:

What advice do you have for people

who feel out of place in certain

263

:

environments but are trying to fit in?

264

:

I think this goes back to the beginning

of the episode of when I had that moment

265

:

of, oh, I truly don't belong here.

266

:

And sometimes it brings up

like past emotions, right?

267

:

Maybe not feeling like you belong to

middle school, high school, college,

268

:

like, whatever it is, work environment.

269

:

But, I think when it comes to

this specifically is you need

270

:

to know when to walk away.

271

:

And, if you are not vibing with the

people, if you are not gelling with them,

272

:

if something just doesn't feel right.

273

:

It's okay to walk away.

274

:

It's okay to try to find another

community that truly is your community.

275

:

Just because you try with X, Y,

and Z's group and, you know, that

276

:

clearly works for them doesn't

mean it's gonna work for you.

277

:

You just gotta try it out.

278

:

It's kind of like dating

when you think of it, right?

279

:

You just have to keep trying with

certain things and seeing if it works.

280

:

And if it does, that's great.

281

:

You continue on this relationship,

but if it doesn't, then you

282

:

guys part your own ways.

283

:

And I think that's the same concept.

284

:

If you don't feel like you are vibing or

gelling with this certain environment.

285

:

It's okay to walk away from it.

286

:

And it takes strength to do so.

287

:

All right, Radiant Icons, that

is your episode for today.

288

:

I promised you a boiling, hot,

piping teatime session, I think

289

:

I delivered on that promise.

290

:

I just, like, kept going

and going and going.

291

:

But you know what?

292

:

It was heavy on my

heart, so I had to share.

293

:

I guess that's like every episode.

294

:

But, you know what?

295

:

We're here!

296

:

I truly do hope that this episode helps

you as much as it has helped me spilling

297

:

the tea about this certain thing that's

been going on in my life recently,

298

:

and I just want you guys to know that

you aren't alone in these feelings.

299

:

This idea of pivoting, of changing course,

and this fear of failure, like, they are

300

:

common things, and we're all gonna deal

with them, and it's okay, and sometimes

301

:

we just, we just have to embrace them,

because it's, it's part of life, and we

302

:

just have to make sure we stay true to

ourselves, and that's what I'm learning.

303

:

If you guys liked this episode, make

sure to leave a review, to rate it,

304

:

subscribe, share it with your friends,

share it with anyone and anyone.

305

:

Because we love more radiant

icons in our iconic community.

306

:

Ooh, it's been a while since

I've said that, but anywho, I

307

:

will see you guys next week.

308

:

It's going to be a heavier

topic, but it's okay.
