Break Up With The Past, Fall In Love With The Future

In this episode of 'Dare to be Iconic,' Amanda spills the tea on breaking up with the past and falling in love with the future. She shares her personal journey of healing from breakups characterized by traumatic letters and how she reclaimed painful dates by creating new, joyful memories. Amanda emphasizes that healing is a non-linear process akin to a rollercoaster, involving backslides that are normal but not indicative of failure. Through her story, she illustrates how transforming pain into power involves reclaiming one's narrative and using past hurts as a foundation for resilience and strength.

:

Dare to be Iconic, the podcast made

for icons daring to be themselves.

3

:

I'm your host, Amanda Paolicelli,

and today we are breaking up

4

:

with our past and falling in

love with our iconic future.

5

:

We are turning that pain into power.

6

:

But before we get into that.

7

:

I dare you to go to daretobeiconic.

10

:

Past, Fall In Love With The Future.

11

:

So, the tea is hot and very,

very fresh for today's episode.

12

:

Let's start with the concept of healing.

13

:

Healing is like a rollercoaster, okay?

14

:

That feeling when you're going backwards,

so that backsliding feeling when

15

:

you're on a rollercoaster, is the same

when you feel like you're backsliding

16

:

in your healing journey, right?

17

:

That is completely normal

and it's part of the process.

18

:

And sometimes that feels

like failure, but it's not.

19

:

We sometimes have to go backwards in

order to propel forward, healing is never

20

:

going to be this linear straight line.

21

:

It's like a roller coaster

because there are dips and

22

:

turns and everything in between.

23

:

We're going to go upside down sideways,

like all this stuff that a roller coaster

24

:

is, that is the concept of healing.

25

:

That is what our healing

journey looks like.

26

:

So how can we turn this pain that we are

experiencing into a source of power, into

27

:

a source of resiliency and into strength.

28

:

Letters have always been a trigger for me.

29

:

My last ex, as I mentioned in the

previous episode, broke up with

30

:

me through a letter in a box.

31

:

The ex prior to him was one of the

most draining two months of my life.

32

:

That was a two month relationship that I

do talk about more in my blog, sparsely.

33

:

To sum it up, that two month

horrible relationship ended also

34

:

with a letter at my front door.

35

:

And my ex that broke up with me

through a box and a letter knew about

36

:

that story because I was with him

during that time when I received that

37

:

letter from my first ex boyfriend.

38

:

He knew how triggering letters were to me.

39

:

I was so mad at him when I saw

that letter at my front door.

40

:

Because how can someone be so cruel

and so insensitive, someone that you

41

:

love so much, to treat you in such

a shitty way, and to use something

42

:

that they know is so painful for you,

to cause another traumatic memory.

43

:

So for me, it felt like

letters were consuming my life.

44

:

For me, this concept of

turning pain into power.

45

:

It comes down to how can I reclaim

these things that were taken from me.

46

:

I have never experienced a

letter in the way it should, that

47

:

concept of, love letters from

to all the boys I loved before.

48

:

Letters never had that sweet love effect.

49

:

It was taken from me because

of trauma being placed on me.

50

:

In my brain, I was so tired of me not

being able to see a letter and not

51

:

associate it with a positive memory.

52

:

And that really sucked.

53

:

I felt like it honestly took over my life.

54

:

So, when it came to how

can I reclaim letters?

55

:

I had to look within and do the work.

56

:

I wanted to reclaim dates.

57

:

I wanted to replace painful

memories with happy ones.

58

:

So every time October 10th comes around,

I will now remember it, not as the day of

59

:

my breakup, but as the day of this Dare

To Be Iconic movement starting, because I

60

:

released my blog on October 10th, 2023,

a year after my breakup, so that that

61

:

day can now be a happy memory for me.

62

:

Every February 24th, I do

something with my girlfriends.

63

:

to have a happy memory of that day.

64

:

So this year, we

literally went go karting.

65

:

And I don't know if you guys know

this, but on my social media, if

66

:

you follow me, I am a big Formula

One fan, big Lando Norris fan.

67

:

For me, karting has always

been something I wanted to do.

68

:

So why not have this first of

something that I've always wanted,

69

:

that I love, make it on a day,

That is slightly triggering for me.

70

:

That is slightly sensitive to me, right?

71

:

That's how I turn my pain into power.

72

:

That's how I break up with the past

and fall in love with my future.

73

:

I have to let go of the pain and embrace

this emotional turbulence that I'm in

74

:

to propel forward in my healing journey.

75

:

That's how I find the strength and

resilience in myself to bounce back, to

76

:

reclaim my narrative, to reclaim my story.

77

:

I take the days back.

78

:

I take the memory back and I make

it into something positive for me.

79

:

I make it into something that I

can look back on and be like that

80

:

is a day I will always remember.

81

:

That memory is now stitched in my head for

February 24th, and it's no longer the day

82

:

where my ex boyfriend taped a letter to my

apartment door after he broke up with me.

83

:

It's no longer that.

84

:

October 10th is no longer the

day where I was broken up with.

85

:

It's now a day where I took my power back.

86

:

I reclaimed my story.

87

:

Turning your pain into power is all

about finding the strength within

88

:

yourself so that you can bounce back

and come out stronger on the other end.

89

:

How can you take certain instances

in your life and reclaim them to

90

:

you in your own unique, iconic way?

91

:

This concept of breaking up with

the past and falling in love with

92

:

the future is a five step plan.

93

:

In my journal, that you can find in

the show notes linked below, it is

94

:

a five step process where I guide

you in the pain to power journey.

95

:

You have to break up with the past.

96

:

You have to feel those feelings.

97

:

Embrace the emotional turbulence.

98

:

Go through the waves.

99

:

Feel them all to fall in love with

your future and dare to be iconic.

100

:

Because once you break up with that old

version of you, with those old triggers.

101

:

You are able to turn them into

strength to fall in love with the

102

:

future that you want for yourself.

103

:

Once you step free from your triggers

and from your pain, you're able to

104

:

embrace so many amazing opportunities

that will come into your life.

105

:

I firmly believe that if my ex did not

break up with me in the way that he

106

:

did, I would not be where I am today.

107

:

I would not be the icon

that I am right now.

108

:

And so my hope is, with this journal

that you find that too, within yourself.

109

:

Because sometimes, it just takes something

really shitty for you to want to change

110

:

your life and step into your power.

111

:

So for me, it was the letters, it was

the date, it was this whole entire thing.

112

:

This whole entire breakup and

being reminded once again, that

113

:

he thought he can take control of

my life by bringing back something

114

:

that was really, really cruel.

115

:

He doesn't get that.

116

:

I will not let him take that from me.

117

:

He doesn't get to take the day.

118

:

He doesn't get to take the letters

and he doesn't get to take the box.

119

:

So how can I reclaim it?

120

:

And I have, and I hope you guys can too.

121

:

I hope that through this journal and

through the exercises in it, that I'm

122

:

able to guide you into this beautiful

journey of falling in love with the

123

:

iconic you that you're coming into.

124

:

You know, we are all going through

this healing journey together . We all

125

:

deal with shitty situations, but It's

how we overcome them that shows us

126

:

our strength and resiliency within.

127

:

So that is our tea time sesh

for today, radiant icons.

128

:

In our next episode, we're going

to be talking about the word

129

:

iconic and how you can be an icon.
