16

:

Now let's get to the piping hot

tea for today's tea time sesh.

17

:

Katie and I are talking about confidence,

resiliency, self-love, pivoting, how

18

:

you can be your own best friend, because

that honestly is the longest relationship

19

:

you'll ever be in in your life.

20

:

So you gotta learn how to be your own best

friend, and we spill the tea on that and

21

:

so much more in today's tea time sesh.

22

:

I am so excited.

23

:

So are you ready?

24

:

Radiant icons because your

tee time sesh is starting now.

25

:

Katie, it's been a long time coming.

26

:

Welcome to Dare To Be Iconic.

27

:

Katie Hornsby: Thank you.

28

:

So happy to be here.

29

:

I feel like we like record a

podcast every time we talk.

30

:

Amanda Paolicelli: No, absolutely.

31

:

Absolutely.

32

:

We're just, we've progressed, you

know, we've now made it so people

33

:

can hear our conversations, which

I don't know if that's gonna end

34

:

up in our favor, but you know what?

35

:

We will see.

36

:

We will see.

37

:

So Katie, we are gonna get into

all the iconicness that you do a

38

:

little bit later on into our tea

time ses, but we're gonna start with

39

:

some dare to be iconic essentials.

40

:

So what does the word iconic mean

to you and how do you dare to

41

:

be iconic in your everyday life?

42

:

Katie Hornsby: Okay, so it's

so funny 'cause you and I say

43

:

iconic all the time idea and like

myself idea, do I catch myself?

44

:

Like leaving comments on Instagrams

like you do like so iconic and I'm

45

:

like, oh my god, Amanda would be proud.

46

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Oh my God, that's the

best compliment I could ever hear my life.

47

:

Katie Hornsby: But when I like

really sat with myself Yeah.

48

:

And thought about it to me, iconic.

49

:

It's kind of a combination

of, it's timeless.

50

:

Mm-hmm.

51

:

It's bold, it's revolutionary.

52

:

But it is also like classic

and Oh, I love that.

53

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Revolutionary.

54

:

Okay.

55

:

Revolutionary.

56

:

Yeah, revolutionary.

57

:

Katie Hornsby: I love that.

58

:

Okay.

59

:

Yeah.

60

:

And then let's think.

61

:

Okay, so being iconic in

my everyday life and war in

62

:

everyone's everyday life, exactly.

63

:

I think is truly just being

exactly who you are and not giving.

64

:

A care about what anyone else thinks

about you, and just walking with that

65

:

confidence in life because yeah, if

you have the confidence, you're iconic.

66

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Exactly.

67

:

Point blank in period, Katie.

68

:

Okay.

69

:

Slay.

70

:

I couldn't say it better myself.

71

:

It's like, almost like daring to be

yourself, you know, like Exactly.

72

:

Sounds so familiar.

73

:

So for the radiant icons who don't know,

Katie and I are very, very close friends

74

:

and we bonded over our love for F1.

75

:

Katie is the founder of Race Tips.

76

:

Um, race Tips is like literally the

most iconic brand out there, fast and

77

:

easy manicures for the fast car fans.

78

:

And so I think both of us being

small business owners, it's sometimes

79

:

hard, or at least I think so in this

concept of trusting that you are

80

:

exactly where you are meant to be.

81

:

And so I wanted to kind of ask you

how has trusting that concept, right,

82

:

kind , helped guide you through the

tough moments, whether it's you being

83

:

a female entrepreneur or just being

Katie living her most iconic life.

84

:

Katie Hornsby: Okay.

85

:

So when it comes to trusting and like

knowing that you're exactly where you

86

:

need to be, I'll kind of talk about it

maybe a little bit more in my personal

87

:

life first and then kind of, yeah,

get it back to the, the entrepreneur

88

:

in me, but point, blank and, period.

89

:

I think it's really accepting that

everything happens for a reason and

90

:

that there's a reason you are in

the place that you are right now.

91

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Mm-hmm.

92

:

Katie Hornsby: And I think that's

something I've accepted and then I've had

93

:

to accept many times throughout my life.

94

:

I think that's something

that you will face.

95

:

Your whole entire life, and you never

quite know when you might be faced

96

:

with like, oh, I gotta gotta remind

myself, like, we're here for a reason.

97

:

It's gonna be okay.

98

:

And I think the other part of it

too is like when maybe something

99

:

doesn't go right or maybe you feel

lost or life is just hard right now.

100

:

It's reminding yourself of all the

good things that are in your life.

101

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yeah.

102

:

That's so important.

103

:

Yes,

104

:

Katie Hornsby: exactly.

105

:

Like I have a roof over my head.

106

:

I have loving friends.

107

:

I have food in the refrigerator.

108

:

I have a bed to sleep in.

109

:

But then also like.

110

:

I have a killer business.

111

:

I have a passion for this.

112

:

And so reminding yourself of all the,

all the positive things and all the

113

:

good things you have going for yourself.

114

:

And then I think like the other

big part of it is knowing that you

115

:

can change direction at any time.

116

:

Yes.

117

:

And I think a lot of people Yes,

118

:

Amanda Paolicelli: absolutely.

119

:

Katie Hornsby: Absolutely.

120

:

Yes, exactly.

121

:

And I think a lot of people forget that.

122

:

We are in control of our lives and we

are the universe perceiving itself.

123

:

If you're unhappy, you can

change that is might be.

124

:

Exactly, yeah, and then it, it

could be moving to a new place.

125

:

It could be saying goodbye to a

certain friend, changing careers.

126

:

Maybe it's like actually just

making more time for your hobbies,

127

:

or it's as simple as giving

yourself time to sit with yourself.

128

:

I know we're probably gonna

talk about Katy Nights later,

129

:

but like having yourself,

130

:

Amanda Paolicelli: obviously,

I stole that from you, duh.

131

:

Katie Hornsby: Yeah.

132

:

Having yourself a Katy night and I think

in the lens of being an entrepreneur,

133

:

being a small business owner, um,

you know, it's okay to make mistakes.

134

:

It's okay to, I always

say like, fail fast.

135

:

Uh, and learn and then pivot.

136

:

And I think the whole point of being

an entrepreneur, like how one calls

137

:

themselves as an entrepreneur is being

able to iterate and figuring out, you

138

:

know, taking time, analyzing what's

going right, what's going wrong, what

139

:

can I improve on, what are my strengths,

opportunities, uh, and then what can

140

:

I do to improve and iterate on that?

141

:

And if it doesn't work.

142

:

That's okay.

143

:

That's what iterating is,

is you're trying something.

144

:

If it doesn't work, you pivot.

145

:

You try something new.

146

:

And as you do that in life,

you also do that in business.

147

:

And so Exactly.

148

:

Having kind of that mindset of

like, we're literally just iterating

149

:

all the time and nothing's wrong.

150

:

Amanda Paolicelli: No, like literally,

like I had a friend tell me that her key

151

:

word in entrepreneurship is pivoting.

152

:

Like you have to be

comfortable with pivoting.

153

:

You are going to fail big.

154

:

You're going to fail

fast, like you said, like.

155

:

But you need to know

when it's time to pivot.

156

:

You need to be able to have that

self-reflection, and I think that goes

157

:

back to what you had mentioned, which

is being in control of your own destiny.

158

:

So what are some steps that you

took to make sure you were on

159

:

the right path for yourself?

160

:

Katie Hornsby: I think I knew

I was in control of my own

161

:

destiny before I knew I was.

162

:

And like, okay, slay.

163

:

I can explain that.

164

:

Um, okay.

165

:

Slay.

166

:

I love that.

167

:

But the, but the idea of

like subconsciously, like

168

:

I knew I was in charge.

169

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Mm-hmm.

170

:

But

171

:

Katie Hornsby: I didn't necessarily

bring that into consciousness until

172

:

I think I got older and I think that

is probably what happens with a lot

173

:

of us is yeah, if you think back,

like in high school and before that,

174

:

like we're living with our parents.

175

:

There's kind of still guiding maybe

where we're going or how, you know,

176

:

I don't know how we're behaving

or what we're allowed to do and

177

:

maybe what we're not allowed to do.

178

:

And then you get to college and

there's so many external Yes.

179

:

Oh my gosh.

180

:

Influences.

181

:

So glad you mentioned that.

182

:

Yes,

183

:

Amanda Paolicelli: yes.

184

:

Absolutely.

185

:

Katie Hornsby: Yeah.

186

:

Whether it's new friends, whether it's

you're living in a new place, you're

187

:

finding new hobbies, maybe you're.

188

:

Drinking for the first time, or Yeah,

maybe you're in relationships for the

189

:

Amanda Paolicelli: first time,

like you weren't allowed to date.

190

:

Like all these things, you know?

191

:

Mm-hmm.

192

:

Katie Hornsby: And I think like it can

be scary because it's like, oh my God,

193

:

you have all this freedom all at once.

194

:

And you feel that then like when,

whether it's you, you're graduating from

195

:

college or maybe you're moving away from

home, whatever your journey is like.

196

:

Then you're like, oh my God, I now am.

197

:

I always call it, I'm a big girl now.

198

:

Like I have to find, no, like literally

have to find like a big girl job.

199

:

Oh my God.

200

:

I know.

201

:

And a big girl apartment and, mm-hmm.

202

:

Part of it too is like, oh my

gosh, I can be and choose and

203

:

do whatever I wanna do now.

204

:

Like, okay, now I'm like, really?

205

:

It's me.

206

:

I've got it.

207

:

I can decide.

208

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Like I really

am the adult in the room now.

209

:

And that's like so

210

:

Katie Hornsby: scary.

211

:

Yeah, it's so scary.

212

:

And

213

:

also again, like, so now we're here and

we're like, I can't believe how many

214

:

years I'm actually out of college now.

215

:

It doesn't.

216

:

Feel real.

217

:

I feel like I should be

allowed to be this old.

218

:

Amanda Paolicelli: No.

219

:

Yeah, no.

220

:

Retweet on that.

221

:

Yes, retweet on that.

222

:

Sometimes I still think I'm 19,

but you know, that's another story.

223

:

Katie Hornsby: Yeah.

224

:

I, I said to you earlier, this is a

tangent, but I said to you a couple weeks

225

:

ago when George Russell posted, he's

like 27, you know, oh my God, I know.

226

:

Happy Birthday post.

227

:

And I was like, I was like, oh my God.

228

:

I know I'm about to be 27.

229

:

Like George Russell and I are the same

age and like I know it, it's like such

230

:

Amanda Paolicelli: a mind,

like it's a mind bogle

231

:

Katie Hornsby: yeah.

232

:

So I, and then I don't know, I'll

give kind of back maybe to answering.

233

:

I know you're all good.

234

:

Um, but I think.

235

:

Once you realize that you have control

of your life, it's really thinking about

236

:

what you want your life to look like.

237

:

Mm-hmm.

238

:

Um, and I think in the past year or

so, a couple of my friends and I have

239

:

had this conversation about, um, you

know, feeling lost or not knowing what

240

:

yes they want or where they're going.

241

:

And I feel like I am, uh,

I've always been like a little

242

:

ahead of the curve and so like.

243

:

I've like, oh yeah.

244

:

Well I was there a a little bit.

245

:

A little bit ago.

246

:

Yeah.

247

:

And lemme tell you how

I got out of it exactly.

248

:

And it's something I'm still

working on now because it's not an

249

:

easy thing to do, but listing out

all the things I want in my life.

250

:

And I'm not talking

about like harsh goals.

251

:

I am talking about the littlest

things to the biggest things,

252

:

like one thing on my list.

253

:

Yeah.

254

:

We're like a

255

:

Amanda Paolicelli: free flowing.

256

:

Katie Hornsby: Exactly.

257

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Mm-hmm.

258

:

Katie Hornsby: Iterating.

259

:

We're iterating on this

list, point blank and period.

260

:

And like one of the things on my

list is like, I want a bathtub.

261

:

I want a big bathtub in.

262

:

Okay, wait, I love that.

263

:

For you.

264

:

The house that I have one day and like.

265

:

So like it's the tiniest

little thing on that list.

266

:

But then there's like huge things

like I wanna get married and

267

:

have two kids with my boyfriend.

268

:

Like I want to go on a

South Southeast Asia trip.

269

:

Like I wanna learn how to surf better.

270

:

I would love to climb a mountain.

271

:

And so like it's the tiniest little things

all the way up to like the biggest things.

272

:

And yeah, again, this reminder

of like, it can change over time.

273

:

Like I've scratched things off the list.

274

:

I'm like, well, I thought

I wanted to do that.

275

:

I.

276

:

Now I know I don't wanna do that.

277

:

And yeah, so again, just kind of like.

278

:

You can't just kind of keep going,

like you gotta figure out where

279

:

you wanna go, you gotta have a

little bit of a direction, but not

280

:

being too hard on yourself either.

281

:

Amanda Paolicelli: And I, I think

that is rooted all in confident

282

:

decision making, you know?

283

:

And I think when it comes to like choosing

the right path for you, yes it is small

284

:

actions, building up that momentum.

285

:

But that doesn't take

away how daunting it is.

286

:

It doesn't take away how scary it is.

287

:

So what has helped you be

confident your decision making

288

:

skills when it comes to that.

289

:

And I'm taking notes for myself.

290

:

Yes.

291

:

So if you wanna like,

share, that'd be great.

292

:

Katie Hornsby: I will.

293

:

I'll lay it on thick.

294

:

Um, period.

295

:

I think everyone always says it,

but it's like fake it till you

296

:

make it, but like, that is so true.

297

:

Oh yes.

298

:

I live by that.

299

:

I live by that.

300

:

You, yes, you have, you have to

fake it till you make it and like.

301

:

Whatever you tell yourself, like

you are, like if you wanna be a

302

:

bad bitch, like you're a bad bitch.

303

:

If you wanna be a girl

boss, you're a girl boss.

304

:

If you wanna be a or like

a period, yes, a mom.

305

:

Be a mom.

306

:

Like it's whoever you tell

yourself is who you can be.

307

:

And so keeping like, keeping that

in mind, but I also think that

308

:

I am confident in my decisions.

309

:

Because I know I'm, I'm grounded

in what I mentioned earlier

310

:

of like, I can always change.

311

:

Yeah.

312

:

And I think often again, like a lot of

us keep ourselves from being competent

313

:

or like making quick decisions because

we're like, oh my God, this could change

314

:

my life and it could never go back.

315

:

And yes,

316

:

Amanda Paolicelli: it's like the fear

of the unknown is really debilitating,

317

:

Katie Hornsby: you know?

318

:

Exactly.

319

:

And I'm like, okay, like.

320

:

We can just return back

to square one and mm-hmm.

321

:

I think a lot of people think returning

to like ground zero is failure.

322

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I was literally just

thinking that Katie, oh my God, and

323

:

Katie Hornsby: it's not.

324

:

Yes, yes.

325

:

It's ab.

326

:

Mm-hmm.

327

:

It's absolutely not.

328

:

It is.

329

:

I look at it as like, okay, I

get to start fresh like this.

330

:

Whether it's, I don't know, like you're

working on a work presentation and

331

:

they're like, oh, this isn't going the

right way, or you move somewhere, or,

332

:

I don't know, you dye your hair pink.

333

:

Yeah, start from the beginning, beginning,

even go back and like that's a whole new

334

:

opportunity to like start fresh recreate.

335

:

Like that presentation could look

nothing like it did the first time.

336

:

Exactly.

337

:

And you've got that

freedom to make it now.

338

:

Whatever you want it to be.

339

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Exactly.

340

:

Exactly.

341

:

And it's rooted in that mindset shift of

seeing it in that positive lens, which I

342

:

think goes back to what you mentioned like

way earlier on in our tea time session,

343

:

which is rooting it in that gratitude,

rooting it in that positivity and allowing

344

:

yourself to literally just embody that

and see that in every avenue and every

345

:

door that opens for you in your life.

346

:

Katie Hornsby: Exactly.

347

:

And.

348

:

I think one thing I've also had a

lot of conversations with my friends

349

:

about in the last couple years too.

350

:

And like I, a little over a

year ago I moved to New York.

351

:

Mm-hmm.

352

:

And I thought I was probably maybe

always gonna one day find myself here.

353

:

But yeah, I wasn't sure when, um, and

you know, I think it's this idea of

354

:

like, oh, do we move, do we not move?

355

:

Like it was a big conversation that

I had, you know, with my, with my

356

:

boyfriend, with my partner, and.

357

:

I often go, I often refer to this idea

of like, you can leave your hometown,

358

:

which Chicago was his, is his hometown.

359

:

Okay.

360

:

Go to a different city.

361

:

If you don't like it,

you can always move home.

362

:

There's nothing wrong with moving

home, but in 10 years from now, if

363

:

you had never moved to New York,

you can't be like, oh yeah, like.

364

:

Wow.

365

:

I really wish I would've

just moved to New York.

366

:

Yeah.

367

:

Because

368

:

Amanda Paolicelli: then you

would've never, you would've never

369

:

known what could have happened.

370

:

Like that could have been the step for

you to change your entire life and like

371

:

live that life that you've always wanted.

372

:

Right.

373

:

Katie Hornsby: And again,

you're not stepping back.

374

:

You're, you're actually like gain yourself

time of not wasting all that time thinking

375

:

about what if, like just go do it.

376

:

Confident and I.

377

:

It's like even in the worst

scenarios, you're learning something.

378

:

Oh yeah, no.

379

:

Yep.

380

:

Mm-hmm.

381

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Retweet that.

382

:

Re tweet the actual foundation

of Dare to Be Iconic.

383

:

What?

384

:

Katie Hornsby: You might not

think you're learning anything.

385

:

You're like, yeah, I've

got this bad manager.

386

:

You know?

387

:

And my mom has always said like.

388

:

It's not a bad manager.

389

:

It's a manager that's teaching you

how you don't wanna manage people.

390

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Okay.

391

:

Wait, mama katie knows what's up.

392

:

Oh, she,

393

:

Katie Hornsby: yeah,

394

:

Amanda Paolicelli: she an icon.

395

:

She's been around the block.

396

:

Katie Hornsby: She knows what's up.

397

:

So yeah, I just think like, oh my God.

398

:

Yeah, it's okay.

399

:

Like to experiment, be confident, and also

be confident in saying that did not work.

400

:

Mm-hmm.

401

:

Let's start over and no matter

what, you've learned something

402

:

about yourself or about the

situation or about the world that.

403

:

You didn't know before you tried

and you were just confident.

404

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yes.

405

:

Yes.

406

:

And it's like all with trusting

that process that you are exactly

407

:

where you are supposed to be.

408

:

And I think this's just beautifully

segues into Katie night because

409

:

it's you owning your power, right?

410

:

When you are confident in your

decision making and you're confident

411

:

in trusting the process of everything

that is going on, and it's you

412

:

know, creating some time for you.

413

:

And so I've stolen this

from you quite a bit, Katie.

414

:

Um, I've, I made my Amanda nights.

415

:

I had one yesterday actually.

416

:

It was beautiful.

417

:

So for the radiant icons who were

like, what the heck is a Katie night?

418

:

What is a Katie night?

419

:

What does your typical

Katie night look like?

420

:

And what are your tips and tricks

on how they can make their own

421

:

iconic night for themselves?

422

:

Absolutely.

423

:

Katie Hornsby: So if we're, if I'm

explaining a dream, Katie night

424

:

to you and not every Katie night.

425

:

Yes.

426

:

Not every got picture.

427

:

Yeah.

428

:

Not every Katie night looks like this.

429

:

Sometimes you just gotta take

one or two pieces of the dream.

430

:

Exactly.

431

:

Exactly.

432

:

Of the dream.

433

:

Katie Knight.

434

:

But it would be.

435

:

I go to a yoga class,

436

:

Amanda Paolicelli: okay?

437

:

Katie Hornsby: I get all

the tension outta my body.

438

:

I'm like stretching myself out.

439

:

I'm clearing my mind it.

440

:

I'm reminding myself, love it.

441

:

Remind myself how powerful I am, and

then I'm coming home and I am getting

442

:

in the bubble bath with a snack,

usually my iPad, to like watch a movie.

443

:

Or read Fourth

444

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Wing,

445

:

Katie Hornsby: you know,

or read Fourth Wing.

446

:

Yeah.

447

:

You know me well, I know you

still laugh, you know Me too Well.

448

:

Uh, and then a journal and a

pen, just because like you never

449

:

know when you're not as Exactly.

450

:

Oh, and then it's usually

like hair mask, face mask.

451

:

We're bubble bathing.

452

:

If I've got the energy, maybe we're

shaving our legs, maybe we're not.

453

:

It's like that's always one that's like, I

454

:

Amanda Paolicelli: don't know

if I wanna put that on the list.

455

:

'cause that's actually work.

456

:

You

457

:

Katie Hornsby: know what I mean?

458

:

But you know, sometimes you're

like, oh, I just need like a reset.

459

:

Exactly.

460

:

I need to wash my hair, shave my legs.

461

:

Yeah.

462

:

Yeah.

463

:

You need a everything shower.

464

:

You know I love a good everything shower.

465

:

Yeah,

466

:

Amanda Paolicelli: yeah, yeah.

467

:

Katie Hornsby: And I, you know, when

John first met me, my boyfriend,

468

:

he was like everything all at once.

469

:

Like, you can't just do.

470

:

One thing and I'm like, no, I can't.

471

:

No.

472

:

That's not

473

:

Amanda Paolicelli: how our brains work

as small business owners, absolutely not.

474

:

Have you met us?

475

:

And so like half right,

476

:

Katie Hornsby: and so half the time

I'm not even like watching the TV

477

:

show or the movie I put on because

I'm like sitting in my thoughts.

478

:

I really just need like

sound in the background.

479

:

Yeah.

480

:

Like this side of the brain has like white

481

:

Amanda Paolicelli: noise, you

482

:

Katie Hornsby: know?

483

:

Yeah.

484

:

This side of the brain has

to be distracted so this

485

:

side of the brain can like.

486

:

Do what it needs to do.

487

:

Do, yeah.

488

:

Do what it needs to do.

489

:

And most of that is like sitting

with myself and thinking about,

490

:

you know, how did this week go?

491

:

How did.

492

:

How do I want next week to go?

493

:

Yes.

494

:

It's almost like, like to relate

it to like, uh, you know, work.

495

:

We all have like performance meetings

or like Oh yeah, like performance

496

:

Amanda Paolicelli: evaluations.

497

:

Yeah.

498

:

Yeah.

499

:

And like,

500

:

Katie Hornsby: okay,

what are your strengths?

501

:

What are your weaknesses?

502

:

This is what you've been doing well, this

is what you've not maybe been doing so

503

:

well, but is something you can work on.

504

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Mm-hmm.

505

:

Uh,

506

:

Katie Hornsby: and again, it's just

like a, it's a check-in and I'm sure

507

:

you'll probably hear me say this a few

more times in this episode, but like.

508

:

Just sitting, first of all,

I'll say this, allowing yourself

509

:

to feel the emotions you feel.

510

:

I feel like a lot of times

we don't let ourselves

511

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yes.

512

:

Feel what we wanna, you

have to feel everything.

513

:

Yes.

514

:

That's everything.

515

:

And it's, it's hard.

516

:

It's horrible

517

:

Katie Hornsby: sometimes.

518

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yeah.

519

:

It's not easy.

520

:

I rather not, but like it's literally

so vital in order for you to like

521

:

truly like live your most iconic life.

522

:

Katie Hornsby: Like you

just have to, you know?

523

:

Right.

524

:

And like.

525

:

Sitting in that anger that you might

have or that sadness or frustration

526

:

or even in the good emotions.

527

:

Yeah, the happiness, the inspired the joy.

528

:

Exactly.

529

:

The joy that's like part one is just

like, okay, let me just like sit in these.

530

:

And then the, which is again, all hard to

begin with, but then like the next hardest

531

:

thing is like, why do I feel this way?

532

:

That's

533

:

Amanda Paolicelli: self-awareness.

534

:

You know?

535

:

That's always a tricky part.

536

:

Yeah.

537

:

No one, no one likes that.

538

:

Or like holding yourself

accountable for maybe Like what?

539

:

Like if you are angry.

540

:

If you were sad, right.

541

:

And there's something that happened, like

is there a part of it of like that you

542

:

can hold responsibility for, you know?

543

:

Absolutely.

544

:

Like if it was a friendship

breakup, a romantic breakup, like.

545

:

What was your part in it?

546

:

Like no one wants to own up to it, but

like sometimes we have to, you know?

547

:

Right.

548

:

Absolutely.

549

:

Not even sometimes.

550

:

Absolutely.

551

:

We just

552

:

Katie Hornsby: have to.

553

:

We just have to And like giving

yourself grace, I think something, yes.

554

:

You and I have also chatted about a

lot, literally everything under the sun.

555

:

Yes.

556

:

Yes.

557

:

Is this idea of I am my own best friend.

558

:

And yeah, when people are like,

oh, who's your best friend?

559

:

And I say, oh myself.

560

:

Like sometimes they look at

me and they're like, yeah.

561

:

Amanda Paolicelli: They're like, who?

562

:

Thank

563

:

Katie Hornsby: you.

564

:

Why you like conceited lady?

565

:

Like what do you mean?

566

:

And I'm like, okay, well, like

let me break it down for you.

567

:

Exactly.

568

:

Exactly.

569

:

To spend the rest of

your life with yourself.

570

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Exactly.

571

:

That is the longest long-term

relationship you genuinely

572

:

will ever be in, in your life.

573

:

Katie Hornsby: And if you don't like her

or him or whoever, like if you don't like

574

:

yourself, like how can others like you?

575

:

and I think maybe people are

like, oh my God, I don't know

576

:

how to be my best friend.

577

:

Like you figure out Yeah.

578

:

Like what are the steps?

579

:

Yeah.

580

:

Okay, here we go.

581

:

You ready?

582

:

You gotta figure out I'm out.

583

:

What you like and what you don't like.

584

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Period.

585

:

Katie Hornsby: That's

like the first thing.

586

:

Period.

587

:

Like period.

588

:

If you don't like doing

something, don't do it.

589

:

Um.

590

:

Mm-hmm.

591

:

Exactly.

592

:

Take notes of it,

593

:

Amanda Paolicelli: you know,

594

:

Katie Hornsby: take notes.

595

:

Notes.

596

:

Like, I'm never doing that again.

597

:

Never in my life, you know,

never doing that again.

598

:

I think the other part is

spending time with yourself alone.

599

:

Yes.

600

:

Like literally

601

:

Amanda Paolicelli: just being by

yourself and having solo dates, you know?

602

:

Katie Hornsby: Yeah.

603

:

Yes, exactly.

604

:

Like I used to take myself

to the movies once a week.

605

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I.

606

:

I love that for you.

607

:

Katie Hornsby: Like find what

you love and do it and challenge

608

:

yourself to do it by yourself.

609

:

Maybe the first time you know, you

bring a friend, but then like you've

610

:

gotta take yourself and you've gotta

be okay and be confident being alone

611

:

and like I was alone for a long time,

and I'm not saying like alone, like

612

:

I had my friends, I had my family.

613

:

I had my work community,

like I had people around me.

614

:

Yum.

615

:

And not to get two therapists on

all of you, but there are four.

616

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Don't worry.

617

:

The radiant icons are used to it.

618

:

I cry like literally every single episode.

619

:

Katie, we all know this.

620

:

It's okay.

621

:

It's okay.

622

:

Katie Hornsby: Good.

623

:

Okay, good.

624

:

So if you don't know, there

are four kinds of loneliness.

625

:

There's like three, and then like

the fourth one is like the like.

626

:

We've now entered the lower levels

of therapy and like I'm giving you

627

:

one of the keys to life Really?

628

:

Okay.

629

:

So the one of 'em is friends

and family, like if you know.

630

:

Yeah.

631

:

Okay.

632

:

Lonely if you don't

have friends and family.

633

:

The second one is community, uh,

whether that's like community one,

634

:

community, whatever it might be.

635

:

Radiant

636

:

Amanda Paolicelli: icon, community icon.

637

:

Yes.

638

:

Katie Hornsby: Thank you.

639

:

The third one is romantic.

640

:

Okay.

641

:

Connection.

642

:

And then the fourth one, which

is like the key is yourself.

643

:

And so,

644

:

Amanda Paolicelli: oh

645

:

Katie Hornsby: yeah, like,

and again, that's like,

646

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I

had no idea about that.

647

:

Katie Hornsby: One of the

hidden, hidden prophecies.

648

:

I guess if there is,

649

:

Amanda Paolicelli: like, I love

650

:

Katie Hornsby: that you can feel

full in those first three ones, but

651

:

if you don't feel full in yourself.

652

:

You know, whether that's as your best

friend or as like, oh, we're acquaintances

653

:

and we're working our way to best friends.

654

:

Like, you've gotta be okay being

by yourself and being good with

655

:

you and not feeling lonely.

656

:

Because if, imagine if you

didn't have any of those four.

657

:

Oh my goodness.

658

:

Exactly.

659

:

That would be, that would be so hard.

660

:

And like I've been there, like, and those

four can change throughout life, like.

661

:

I, I was alone for a long time by myself.

662

:

I was learning to feel good in myself,

my community, my friends, my family.

663

:

And then I was like, oh my gosh.

664

:

Like, okay, why do I still feel lonely?

665

:

I'm like, oh, well it might be time

to like put yourself out there again.

666

:

And so I was like, okay, let's do it.

667

:

And then I met the love of my life and

like, I think that happened because I was

668

:

so good in those other three areas, like

you've gotta be so good with yourself

669

:

before you give yourself to anyone else.

670

:

Whether that's romantically, whether

that's platonically, natively.

671

:

Exactly.

672

:

Platonically.

673

:

Even like giving my business part of

myself, like I gotta be good here.

674

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yes.

675

:

Katie Hornsby: There.

676

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I have no words other

than everything just like clicks when you

677

:

say that because it's so true, like you

can feel so fulfilled with being your own

678

:

best friend or having your family around

you or having your friendships, but like

679

:

in my case, right, I, I don't think it's

a surprise to anyone that I'm saying this,

680

:

but like currently, obviously there's no

romantic prospects and I'm not putting

681

:

myself out there for that 'cause just for

me like that is not not something I want

682

:

to do and like there is a part of me, oh

wow, I've never spoken about this before.

683

:

There is a part of me and that does

feel a little bit lonely in that aspect.

684

:

When I see everyone like with their

partner or like talking about love

685

:

in that way, like I think that's

so beautiful and I would love to

686

:

experience falling in love again.

687

:

I know at this point, it's not

something for me right now, but it

688

:

doesn't take away the loneliness

that I feel in that category of

689

:

my life, even though I'm fulfilled

in all the other areas, you know?

690

:

Katie Hornsby: Yeah.

691

:

And it's hard and like knowing when

you're ready, when you're not ready.

692

:

Like it, it's scary.

693

:

Uh, so yeah.

694

:

And there's no rush either.

695

:

Like there's plenty of time.

696

:

I know I'm still getting

697

:

Amanda Paolicelli: hotter by the minute.

698

:

Katie Hornsby: No, no, you are, as you

get older, you get hotter, like thank you.

699

:

You're more mature.

700

:

You, you know, you know

what's right from wrong.

701

:

Exactly, exactly.

702

:

One thing, one thing I missed about

being your best friend, which tell me,

703

:

I wanna make sure I get this in because

when I said it to John that like, whoa.

704

:

Um, and I mentioned it earlier, but

like, I've been giving myself a lot more

705

:

grace and patience and I think that's,

as you get older, you just, like, you're

706

:

more calm, you're chiller, maybe, for

lack of a better word, you're more

707

:

Amanda Paolicelli: willing

to do that for yourself.

708

:

Katie Hornsby: Yes.

709

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Mm-hmm.

710

:

Katie Hornsby: I know a lot of women deal

with insecurity, like self insecurity,

711

:

and I think part of being your best friend

is really just being kind to yourself

712

:

and thinking about how maybe some of

the things you say to yourself, would

713

:

you ever say that to your best friend?

714

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yeah.

715

:

Oh my God.

716

:

Period.

717

:

That's like one of my biggest like

confidence tips is think about like, would

718

:

you ever say this to your best friend?

719

:

If you wouldn't, do not say

that to yourself because you

720

:

are your best friend too.

721

:

Katie Hornsby: You know?

722

:

Absolutely.

723

:

Or even like, you know, your daughter,

like think about your future daughter.

724

:

Like would you ever say

that to, or would you ever

725

:

Amanda Paolicelli: want her

to think that about herself?

726

:

Exactly.

727

:

And you know.

728

:

Katie Hornsby: Well, there is so much.

729

:

We got so much stuff to do.

730

:

Us women, like we are busy.

731

:

We are holding down the

fort on a lot of areas.

732

:

Areas.

733

:

We really just run the world,

you know, like that's scary.

734

:

We run the world.

735

:

Amanda Paolicelli: We basically run,

736

:

Katie Hornsby: and life is too

short to stand in the mirror

737

:

and pick yourself apart.

738

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Mm-hmm.

739

:

Katie Hornsby: Like look at yourself in

the mirror, let yourself know you are

740

:

beautiful because you are inside and out.

741

:

And then like we gotta go

because we got stuff to do.

742

:

Like we gotta Exactly.

743

:

We have

744

:

Amanda Paolicelli: businesses to

build, we have money to make, we have,

745

:

we gotta start revolution, you know?

746

:

Exactly.

747

:

Thank you.

748

:

I forgot my third thing in there.

749

:

I love threes, as you can tell.

750

:

Yes.

751

:

Katie Hornsby: Like we don't have

time to be tearing ourselves.

752

:

Here's my plug too, or others,

specifically women down.

753

:

We don't, don't have

754

:

Amanda Paolicelli: time.

755

:

We're all here to empower each other.

756

:

Absolutely.

757

:

That's how we build revolutions.

758

:

That's how we break barriers.

759

:

That's how we shift the

narrative, you know?

760

:

Men tear us down.

761

:

Like it is their job.

762

:

Exactly.

763

:

Like the world loves to hate women.

764

:

I'm like, honestly, so like

firm in that belief, you know?

765

:

Why are, why are we

gonna turn on each other?

766

:

Katie Hornsby: Right?

767

:

Yeah, exactly.

768

:

The last thing we have time for is

us being mean to each other, like

769

:

Amanda Paolicelli: mm-hmm.

770

:

Katie Hornsby: Let's move on.

771

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Exactly.

772

:

Let's move on 'cause that's why

female friendships are so important.

773

:

Katie Hornsby: Absolutely.

774

:

So.

775

:

Amanda Paolicelli: That goes into

my last question for you, Katie.

776

:

If you could go back in time and

tell Katie from when she first

777

:

started her business, rice Tips,

the best manicure brand out there.

778

:

Go check it out in my show notes.

779

:

Yeah.

780

:

Thank you so much.

781

:

Um, what would you tell her?

782

:

Katie Hornsby: Oh, ooh, hmm.

783

:

I think something.

784

:

I would tell myself maybe, maybe a

little earlier than starting race tips.

785

:

I don't know.

786

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Okay.

787

:

I'm down for you.

788

:

Yeah, I dunno.

789

:

Whatever.

790

:

I didn't know an exact period.

791

:

Yeah.

792

:

Because usually for me in my

life, I always go, what would

793

:

you tell 19-year-old Amanda?

794

:

'cause that's when really

like shit hit the fan for me.

795

:

Mm-hmm.

796

:

But whatever time in your life that

was like so pivotal where you saw that

797

:

transformation, what would you tell her?

798

:

Katie Hornsby: Ooh.

799

:

I think something that I've always been.

800

:

Pretty good at, I think

everyone has like a superpower.

801

:

Yes.

802

:

Whether you know what

your superpower is or not.

803

:

Mm-hmm.

804

:

Is, um, my ability to like just

be chill about things like.

805

:

Everything's fine.

806

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I'm so like that

is the most admirable trait about you.

807

:

I think like when we first became friends,

I was like, damn, this girl is so cool.

808

:

She's so chill.

809

:

Thank you.

810

:

Like, yes.

811

:

I love that you said

812

:

Katie Hornsby: that

there's no need to stress.

813

:

And I think as I've gotten older,

I've become even more chill.

814

:

And so if I could tell my younger

self, something, it would be maybe

815

:

to embrace that faster or earlier.

816

:

Mm.

817

:

Um, think like leaning into it more.

818

:

Yeah.

819

:

Like lean into it.

820

:

Because I feel like maybe when I was a

little younger, like maybe this is more

821

:

like college, early adult, I think, you

know, you're comparing yourself to others.

822

:

It was also covid and to like,

things were weird then too, but a

823

:

Amanda Paolicelli: weird time.

824

:

Like a

825

:

Katie Hornsby: weird time where weird.

826

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Mm-hmm.

827

:

Katie Hornsby: But it's

like, it's gonna be fine.

828

:

Like everything's cool.

829

:

It's gonna be chill.

830

:

Embrace that.

831

:

And like, I think, I wish I would've owned

that as my superpower earlier in life.

832

:

Mm-hmm.

833

:

That's a, that's a good

way to kind of phrase it.

834

:

Um, because yeah, it's all gonna be

fine and if it's not, I'm sure it's

835

:

going to be in at least some way, or

you've learned something about yourself

836

:

again, the universe, you figured it out.

837

:

Amanda Paolicelli: What is your iconic

insight for the Radiant icon community?

838

:

Katie Hornsby: Loving yourself more.

839

:

Like think about how much

you love Lando Norris.

840

:

Yes.

841

:

Or think about how much

I love Lewis Hamilton.

842

:

No, I'm serious for a second.

843

:

Okay.

844

:

Period.

845

:

I'm locked in.

846

:

You better love yourself

more than you love 'em.

847

:

I do.

848

:

I

849

:

Amanda Paolicelli: do

850

:

Katie Hornsby: love myself

more than I love Lando Norris.

851

:

But you know, think about, think

about the things you love in

852

:

life and like you better love

yourself more than you love 'em.

853

:

So,

854

:

Amanda Paolicelli: katie, this

was such a good tea time sash.

855

:

I am so happy that you

came on Dare to be iconic.

856

:

It was about time.

857

:

I'm so grateful to have you in my

life and for our friendship, and I

858

:

still look back at that DM I sent

you about the Spanish Grand Prix.

859

:

Yeah, I took a screenshot of it.

860

:

Oh my gosh.

861

:

Mm-hmm.

862

:

I sounded so weird, didn't I?

863

:

I was like, hi, you.

864

:

Hi Katie.

865

:

I would see if you would

wanna do a partnership.

866

:

I'm going to Spanish Grand Prix,

and these are my engagement rates.

867

:

I would love to chat.

868

:

Katie Hornsby: And I'm pretty sure, I

have no idea what I said, but I'm pretty

869

:

sure like you said, yes, absolutely.

870

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I just like look at it

and I laugh because I'm like, oh my God.

871

:

To see how it started

to now where we are now.

872

:

It's like, I know.

873

:

So, oh my God.

874

:

But I'm so grateful for

you and for our friendship.

875

:

Absolutely.

876

:

And yeah.

877

:

I

878

:

Katie Hornsby: thank you.

879

:

I'm so grateful for you and I

I think back to our first call

880

:

when we like got on the phone and

881

:

Amanda Paolicelli: oh my

God, I think we talked

882

:

Katie Hornsby: for like three hours

and we were like, oh, absolutely.

883

:

We definitely talked more.

884

:

Yeah.

885

:

It just feels like we knew each

other from the beginning and yeah.

886

:

Shoot your shot, shoot, remember, no.

887

:

Period.

888

:

You might find a best friend,

889

:

Amanda Paolicelli: period.

890

:

No, genuinely.

891

:

Genuinely.

892

:

'cause I don't, if I didn't

reach out to Katie, I don't know

893

:

how our paths would've crossed.

894

:

I feel like eventually we would've,

'cause we're both in that F1 and we're

895

:

in our own small businesses, you know?

896

:

But yeah, no, it's, it's kind of weird

to think like, it literally was just

897

:

me shooting a shot and I was so scared.

898

:

I've never told you this, so

I'm gonna say it now on air.

899

:

I was so scared to DM you.

900

:

I was so scared.

901

:

I was like, oh my God.

902

:

Like, I hope she doesn't think I'm,

I was like talking myself out of it.

903

:

Mm-hmm.

904

:

But it was the best DM I've

ever sent in my entire life.

905

:

So I got the best friendship of my life.

906

:

So thank you

907

:

Katie Hornsby: to you and to

whoever else is listening.

908

:

Like you can shoot your shot

with me anytime you want.

909

:

Good, he said, slide into my dm.

910

:

I said, slide into my dms.

911

:

Like, oh, you wanna share race tips?

912

:

Absolutely.

913

:

You wanna talk of one?

914

:

Absolutely.

915

:

Slowly shoot your shot.

916

:

And that can be, again, not just

with me, shoot your shot with anyone.

917

:

You never know what

you're gonna get from it.

918

:

Yeah.

919

:

What's the worst that happens?

920

:

They say no, they don't respond.

921

:

Amanda Paolicelli: And literally

my dad says that all the time.

922

:

They say no.

923

:

Okay.

924

:

And that's their loss period.

925

:

Yeah.

926

:

So if you ever need someone to shoot your

shot with, slide into Katie and I's dms.

927

:

All right, radiant icons.

935

friendship, Katie, and I just wanna

936

:

stay on top of this radiant icons.

937

:

You really never know what's going to

happen unless you believe in yourself

938

:

and shoot your shot, because Katie and I

would've never crossed paths if it wasn't

939

:

for me sliding into her dms and shooting

my shot for a collaboration and that one

940

:

dm it changed my entire life and brought

me such an iconic friendship, and I am

941

:

just so incredibly grateful for her, her

friendship, and the chance that I took

942

:

on myself to just go for what I wanted.
