But now, let's get to the good stuff.

12

:

Let's get to some tea, shall we?

13

:

Today, Jess and I spill the tea

on all things about being a hot

14

:

mess, because Jess is a hot mess.

15

:

I've known that girl since college,

and she embraces that chaotic,

16

:

messy lifestyle, but in a hot way.

17

:

And that's exactly what we are

doing today, Radiant Icons.

18

:

Embrace being a hot mess.

19

:

Are you ready?

20

:

Because your tea time

sesh is starting now.

21

:

Jess, welcome to Dare to be Iconic.

22

:

How are you doing?

23

:

Jessica Mesnick: I'm doing so well.

24

:

How are you?

25

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I'm doing very good.

26

:

I'm very excited, radiant Icons.

27

:

Jess and I go way back.

28

:

We go all the way back to college and we

will get into that later on in this tea

29

:

time sesh, but let's get to the questions.

30

:

So what does iconic mean to you?

31

:

And how do you dare to be

iconic in your everyday life?

32

:

Jessica Mesnick: To me, iconic means

embracing your true, authentic, messy,

33

:

chaotic self, whatever that means to

you, embracing your wins as well as your

34

:

failures, acknowledging just who you

are as a person and living that through.

35

:

And in my daily life, In order to

be an icon and pursue that iconic

36

:

mentality that you push so hard.

37

:

I love I try so hard to just

always be working towards my

38

:

highest self always been working

towards growing And embracing that.

39

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Since the moment

I've met you, Jess, you've just

40

:

been so yourself and I've just

been so privileged to be able to

41

:

witness this journey firsthand.

42

:

This evolution of you embracing this,

like, chaotic, messy, but, like, hot

43

:

mess messy vibes, you know what I mean?

44

:

You are a Jess of all trades, and

it's very, very true, so can you

45

:

just elaborate on how how all those

experiences have really impacted

46

:

like your dare to be iconic journey?

47

:

Jessica Mesnick: Yeah, absolutely.

48

:

I mean, I feel like I've talked

to you about this before.

49

:

I had a plan.

50

:

Right.

51

:

I had a plan.

52

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yes,

you definitely have

53

:

lots and lots of girls times,

whether it's with wine or sushi.

54

:

We have definitely chit chatted

a lot about all of this.

55

:

Jessica Mesnick: A lot about my plan

and my biggest lesson of my life is

56

:

nothing, nothing goes according to plan.

57

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Absolutely!

58

:

A thousand percent, trust me.

59

:

Jessica Mesnick: And that just,

it was such a wake up call for me.

60

:

But it, I mean, you know,

it happened in the pandemic.

61

:

Everybody kind of got a wake up call.

62

:

Everybody kind of realized

things don't go according to

63

:

plan for me specifically, though.

64

:

Nothing was going to plan

even up until the pandemic.

65

:

And then after the pandemic, during

the pandemic, I was like, I have, I

66

:

kind of had to figure something out.

67

:

I kind of have to see

where things are going.

68

:

And so I kind of just started

embracing and pursuing all these

69

:

different interests that I had.

70

:

We majored in theater together in college.

71

:

And so that was part of my plan was to go

and be this big time actress, director,

72

:

work on movie sides, something in the

arts, and the pandemic put that on a hold.

73

:

So that kind of forced me to see

what other things that I loved and

74

:

that, you know, I started working

on events and traveling the world.

75

:

I started directing in

theater again last year.

76

:

I started acting in

movies again last year.

77

:

I started pursuing Dog sitting,

carpentry, electrics, all these

78

:

different things that I had an interest

for, but it wasn't part of my plan.

79

:

So I had to branch out.

80

:

Amanda Paolicelli: So, within that

embracing that messiness that life kind

81

:

of forced upon you in a way, what is

another pivotal lesson that you carry

82

:

with you now in all of those experiences

that you're dipping your toe into?

83

:

Jessica Mesnick: Something I

think that I took away from that

84

:

specifically from working on luxury

events was that no is never an answer.

85

:

If, if somebody asks for something, you

don't get to say no, you figure it out.

86

:

You have to come up with another answer.

87

:

So something is halting your career.

88

:

Something is halting your growth.

89

:

You just have to figure out

like an alternate route.

90

:

Amanda Paolicelli: How have you been

able to apply that into your life,

91

:

specifically with content creation?

92

:

Jessica Mesnick: So I think when it

comes to finding alternate routes

93

:

and never taking no for an answer

in terms of content creation, if

94

:

I don't have an opportunity, if a

brand doesn't reach out to me, I'm

95

:

going to reach out to the brand.

96

:

If I want to do content for this

thing, I'm just going to do it.

97

:

I felt like in the beginning of my content

creation journey, I felt like I had to

98

:

explain a lot of the time, my reasoning

for doing certain pieces of content.

99

:

And you just have to

throw that out the window.

100

:

No one needs an explanation.

101

:

Just do it.

102

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Exactly.

103

:

I remember us sitting down for sushi

when you came here to Orlando and this

104

:

was right before you had taken that

leap to actually start the content

105

:

creation cause I know it's been

something that you've been wanting to do.

106

:

I remember us mentioning a lot about

fear and like breaking away from it.

107

:

So how have you been able to take

that lesson of breaking free from

108

:

fear and just doing it anyway?

109

:

Jessica Mesnick: I know when it came to

like getting over fear for specifically

110

:

for content creation, it was kind of just

like a wake up like I don't want to stay

111

:

in this position that I've been in my

entire life or at least for a while now.

112

:

And I want to take that leap of

faith and just force myself just like

113

:

nosedive into whatever it may be.

114

:

I know a couple of years ago, or I guess

it was more of like the last two years.

115

:

When I moved to Atlanta, had a

realization that, I mean, when you

116

:

first met me, I'm a little shy.

117

:

I'm a little quiet.

118

:

Like, I'm not, I'm not a talkative person.

119

:

I'm not a yapper if you don't know me.

120

:

Amanda Paolicelli: No, I

mean, I guess that's fair.

121

:

My brain didn't even take a second to

I'm like, what are you talking about?

122

:

Jessica Mesnick: You have to go way back.

123

:

Like, you to go way back.

124

:

You approached me, Amanda.

125

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I actually

don't Is it bad that I don't

126

:

remember our first conversation?

127

:

I literally just remember us being

in Be's class, like, getting paired

128

:

up for that, like, acting finale.

129

:

Like, that's all I remember.

130

:

Jessica Mesnick: You paired us up.

131

:

Amanda Paolicelli: I did?

132

:

Jessica Mesnick: You paired us up.

133

:

You came up It was after we had

done some monologues for the class.

134

:

You walked up to me and were like,

Do you want to do a scene together?

135

:

And I was like, I wasn't

going to ask anybody.

136

:

Amanda Paolicelli: So this whole time I

was like, Oh, Be definitely paired us up.

137

:

That is not what happened.

138

:

Okay.

139

:

That's a very Amanda thing.

140

:

Jessica Mesnick: But, but

like, I'm not a yapper.

141

:

I like.

142

:

I might be now, but let me go back.

143

:

Let me go back.

144

:

I am not all the way back.

145

:

I'm a little quiet when you first get to

know me because I don't, I could sit in

146

:

silence forever and be perfectly fine.

147

:

In my career, a year living here

in Atlanta, a year traveling the

148

:

country with all these luxury events,

I realized I hadn't made any real

149

:

connections because I'm not a yapper.

150

:

I'm not a talker.

151

:

I don't go out of my way to meet people.

152

:

And I kind of just, it hit me.

153

:

I was like, I'm going to get nowhere

if I don't change this about myself.

154

:

And so I kind of pulled the actor card

and decided to go out and just open

155

:

up my personality and almost put on

like a whole different personality

156

:

in terms of like talking to people.

157

:

Amanda Paolicelli: So, Radiant

Icons, we all know that Jess and

158

:

I met in college, and she has

definitely reminded me how we've met.

159

:

And , when I was in college, I had no

idea what the hell I was doing, and

160

:

there are a lot of things I would have

told 19 year old Amanda, 20 year old

161

:

Amanda, 21 year old Amanda, to brace

her for what life has in store for her.

162

:

So, for you, What would you

tell Jess in college for the

163

:

years to come and what to expect?

164

:

What is one piece of advice that

you would tell her or one piece

165

:

of motivation to keep going?

166

:

Jessica Mesnick: Take bigger risks.

167

:

I felt like I took bigger risks outside

of university than I did in university,

168

:

which I feel like it should be the

opposite sometimes and to just freaking

169

:

stop adhering to this plan that is ever

going to happen according to the book.

170

:

Everything you'll ever want is going

to happen, but it will never happen

171

:

the way that you expect it to.

172

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Oh, that's

a thousand percent true.

173

:

You mentioned how you feel like

you've taken more risk outside

174

:

of college than you did in.

175

:

And I can relate to that, because I think

I played a little scared in college.

176

:

I didn't go as big as I should

have, and I've definitely taken

177

:

bigger swings now in my life.

178

:

So what has it been for you?

179

:

What was that one moment where you're

like, oh shit, like I actually,

180

:

actually did that damn thing.

181

:

And like college me would be so proud.

182

:

Jessica Mesnick: I freaking

traveled the world.

183

:

Some lady just like hit me up on Upwork

and was like, do you wanna work for me and

184

:

travel the world with some luxury boats?

185

:

And I was like, what else am

I doing in the pandemic, and

186

:

Amanda Paolicelli: That

is such a Jess thing.

187

:

Oh my God.

188

:

That is so you, that is so you,

of course you'll say yes to

189

:

traveling and going on a boat.

190

:

Jessica Mesnick: She literally

messaged me and then like I just

191

:

took off for a month and it was.

192

:

It was a dream, everything.

193

:

It was something I had always

wanted to travel for work.

194

:

And it, like, I'm driving in the

middle of nowhere at one point.

195

:

I'm like, Oh shit.

196

:

I'm kind of like living my dream right now

in the, in a way that I never expected.

197

:

I would have never expected

it to be like this.

198

:

Amanda Paolicelli: So what

did you learn from that?

199

:

Jessica Mesnick: Take fucking risks.

200

:

Just, just, just.

201

:

Amanda Paolicelli: You're

like, take a damn risk Amanda.

202

:

That's what I'm learning.

203

:

Jessica Mesnick: Yes!

204

:

Amanda Paolicelli: That's how

I'm redefining my narrative.

205

:

Period.

206

:

But as you should.

207

:

Jessica Mesnick: Put yourself out there.

208

:

It was a one in a thousand chance

that she would have found me like

209

:

I put myself on the internet.

210

:

I did not put myself out anyway,

and she came to me and found

211

:

me and I mean, I manifested it.

212

:

I, you know, if you pray, maybe you

pray for whatever, but it happened

213

:

because I just, I wanted it to happen.

214

:

And I put myself out there

in the best way that I could.

215

:

And then it came to me.

216

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yeah, it did.

217

:

Now you have a good ass story to tell.

218

:

Jessica Mesnick: I know,

I have a good ass story.

219

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Miss world

traveler, miss I've gone to all

220

:

these countries, miss you need to

stay with me in a hostel next time

221

:

that you travel the world, Amanda.

222

:

Jessica Mesnick: Yes, Amanda.

223

:

Hostel are where its at.

224

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Listen, I got

literally so lost in Barcelona.

225

:

I literally have the worst travel stories.

226

:

Like, Airbnb, like, it's like, horrible.

227

:

Like, I can't, I can't.

228

:

Jessica Mesnick: You know what's

great, though, about a hostel?

229

:

Amanda Paolicelli: No, please tell me.

230

:

I know you're going to tell me anyway, so,

let's share it with everyone, shall we?

231

:

The radiant icons are in for a treat.

232

:

Jessica Mesnick: If you go to a

good hostel, like a decent popular

233

:

hostel, the majority of the people

there are probably new to the city

234

:

as well and just figuring things out.

235

:

And the people at the front desk

have all the resources that you

236

:

need and are there to help you.

237

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Okay, I

guess you're, like, right.

238

:

I rea Okay, like, I could see

where we were going with this.

239

:

Okay.

240

:

Yes.

241

:

So basically the next question

is, what is our next trip?

242

:

Like, what are we doing then?

243

:

Jessica Mesnick: Oh my god,

okay, well, hopefully Miami.

244

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Jess

needs to come to Landobash.

245

:

Please.

246

:

Jess needs to be at Landobash.

247

:

Oh my God.

248

:

Yes.

249

:

Jessica Mesnick: My dad would be so proud.

250

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Oh my God.

251

:

I know.

252

:

That's a fun fact too is that, Jess,

what you want to share about your family

253

:

history and like cars and everything

and how I like literally almost passed

254

:

out when you told me over sushi.

255

:

Jessica Mesnick: I mean,

it's, it's nothing too crazy.

256

:

My dad, my dad has had a crazy life.

257

:

I just want to start like every

time I talk to him, it's just

258

:

some new, random, crazy story.

259

:

Like what, who are you?

260

:

What are you doing

261

:

Amanda Paolicelli: here?

262

:

Like literally,

263

:

Jessica Mesnick: So, okay, well,

let me start from the beginning.

264

:

So he told his parents.

265

:

That he was going to Italy

for vet school for college.

266

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Okay.

267

:

Jessica Mesnick: He did

not go to vet school.

268

:

He brought a racing helmet and

went to driving school in Italy.

269

:

Um, and so he got sponsored became

a professional formula driver.

270

:

He's done Sebring.

271

:

He's won.

272

:

His first race, I think, at

Sebring, he came in like, Seventh

273

:

or somewhere up in like the top 10.

274

:

Um, but yeah, no.

275

:

So he racing legend basically.

276

:

Yes.

277

:

That is like a little cool.

278

:

Um, but no, he used to race

formula cars professionally.

279

:

Yeah, and then my brother races.

280

:

He did race go karts growing up and

now he races every so often, um,

281

:

whatever he, I don't actually know.

282

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Why is that

such like sibling core right there?

283

:

My sister never knows what I'm doing

and I never know what she's doing.

284

:

Like she just graduated with her

master's in December and I'm, everyone's

285

:

like, oh what's she graduating with?

286

:

I don't know.

287

:

It's something with numbers.

288

:

Jessica Mesnick: If it's numbers lost,

289

:

Amanda Paolicelli: yeah, over my head.

290

:

Like, don't, please don't ask me.

291

:

No, no, like she's the one who's

going to be making lots of money.

292

:

And like, as long as she knows

how to count it and all that

293

:

stuff, that's great for her.

294

:

But I have no idea how to comprehend that.

295

:

Jessica Mesnick: Love that for her.

296

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Yeah, me too.

297

:

Me too.

298

:

She'll definitely be the breadwinner.

299

:

But anyway, what advice would you

give to others who are trying to

300

:

redefine their narrative or rewrite it?

301

:

Jessica Mesnick: I would say really

sit with what makes your heart burn.

302

:

Like, what is something that you

truly just, you cannot live without,

303

:

that you are just so passionate

about, you are just constantly

304

:

thinking about it every single day.

305

:

And just take those baby

steps to getting it.

306

:

And if you don't know what

that is, that's totally fine.

307

:

Some people haven't discovered it yet

and won't discover it for years and

308

:

years, but start exploring, go, go do

craft clubs, go meet people, find a

309

:

passion that makes you so happy and

embrace the messiness and pursuing it.

310

:

Amanda Paolicelli: So basically,

be their own Jess of Trades.

311

:

Jessica Mesnick: Yes, be

your own jess of Trades.

312

:

Literally.

313

:

Absolutely!

314

:

Amanda Paolicelli: And embrace

the hot mess of it all.

315

:

So what is one iconic insight

that you want to leave with

316

:

the Radiant Icon community?

317

:

Jessica Mesnick: It's okay to be

scared and to go into things that

318

:

are terrifying and unknown and

you don't know how to do properly.

319

:

So do it messy, do it chaotic,

do it wrong, and figure it out

320

:

along the way because it's so,

so much better on the other side.

321

:

Being a hot mess is just freaking fun.

322

:

Amanda Paolicelli: Jess, I, I cherish

your friendship a lot and I'm just so

323

:

happy that we get to do this together.

324

:

And all that.

325

:

That's good stuff.

326

:

I know you're not sentimental on

me, so I won't, I won't make it

327

:

too tear jerky, but thank you.
